Call for Thematic sessions

To submit a proposal, please fill in all the fields of this FORM, before May 29th, 2026 (12:00 h. UTC+1). Proposals must be written in English. The system will send you confirmation of your proposal submission via a screen-message and email. Please ensure that you have received acknowledgment of receipt.

Before sending your application, please, consider carefully whether you will be able to commit the time needed for planning, and managing the session and take into consideration the following rules and recommendations.

Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the clarity of their objectives and the timeliness of the subject matter. Once the Scientific Committee has evaluated all the submitted proposals, the list of accepted sessions will be published. Please note that the selection process is competitive and, since we frequently receive more applications than can be accommodated in the programme, it is possible that your proposal may be rejected, or merged as part of more general session on the topic.

Thematic Sessions:

Thematic sessions complement the contributed scientific programme of our Meeting by providing a forum for the exploration of particularly timely, innovative, and important questions in ecology, and for highlighting interdisciplinary research.

The time allotted to each session is two hours. If your session is in high demand (many authors apply), you may be assigned more than one 2 hour block.

Each session will consist of several standard oral presentations. Each presentation will be 10 minutes long, followed by an additional 3 minutes for questions and discussion. Alternative session formats can be proposed and will be given consideration by the selection committee based on organisational constraints.

In order to ensure broad and diverse participation, meeting participants may address a contribution to any of the accepted Thematic Sessions. Relevant oral contributions will be selected by the session organisers and the number will depend on the allotted time for the session. Sessions will also be open to poster contributions.

Organising staff/moderator:

Sessions may have a maximum of three organisers. The organisers will evaluate the proposals received for their session and select, among all applications, those that they consider most relevant, innovative and related to their theme, paying special attention to create sessions that are balanced in terms of gender and research stage. They will also be asked to consider multiple dimensions of diversity and to reach out beyond their own networks. The organising staff may only present a single standard oral presentation in their own session, but may be co-authors of other included presentations. They may also intervene as a speaker in any other session.

A member of the thematic session organizing team´s will be responsible for directing the progress of the session and guiding the flow of presentations. Organisers will be expected to complete other tasks to ensure the success of their thematic session, such as:

    • promoting your session and the meeting through your networks
    • managing speaker changes should there be any dropouts

Other important considerations:

In order to be considered and accepted, any contribution addressed to a session, whether as a talk or poster, must be submitted via the congress application system, and its presenter must be registered for the congress (also via website), by the established deadlines.

Organisers should note that registration for the congress is not waived or reduced for any participant in the thematic sessions. Unfortunately, the conference organisers do not have sufficient resources to provide financial support for travel or per diems for papers presented in the thematic sessions.

Your Thematic Session could be scheduled any day beginning on Monday 20th September until Thursday 23th September 2027. Cancellations are very disruptive to the conference organisation; therefore, the session organisers must ensure their availability for any of these dates.
